Volunteer Resources

"One of the greatest gifts you can give is your time." - Unknown

During the school year, would you like to… chaperone a field trip, attend a class party, be a mystery reader, serve as a room parent, or a classroom/school volunteer? In order to interact with West Towson students during the school day (in any capacity) you MUST do the following…

ll potential volunteers, whether they be family, community members, or staff,  must complete the volunteer application and participate in an orientation/training session annually beginning on July 1st.  All volunteer training expires on June 30th. Masks are currently optional in all BCPS schools and offices, regardless of vaccination status.

Step 1:
Complete the BCPS Volunteer Application - Complete and save a copy to your computer or device. You will need to send this along with your training certificates to the volunteer coordinator at your desired location. Applications are available in the following languages:
Spanish Arabic | Burmese French | Nepali
Russian Urdu | Vietnamese Yoruba

Step 2:
Complete the online Volunteer Orientation training. The training is available in English and Spanish. Once the user has logged in, language selection is at the top right next to the profile picture.

If you have completed training in the past but don't remember your login information, please email your school's volunteer coordinator for assistance in recovery.

Step 3:
Send your certificate and application to the volunteer coordinator at the location you would like to volunteer. They will work with you to find the perfect placement!

Once the application process is completed and approval granted, you may begin volunteering in the building.  Please note: Approval must be granted prior to when you plan to volunteer.

The Board of Education of Baltimore County and West Towson Elementary School recognize that participation in the work of the school by parents, guardians, and others provide important support for schools and students. Volunteers are encouraged to become involved and support student learning. Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) recognize the role volunteers have in supporting student learning. Parents, grandparents and other family or community members may volunteer for a variety of short or long term activities.

Any parent or family member who is interested in participating in a school–activity or event which involves interactions with the students must complete volunteer training.
The training must be completed every year. To avoid missing opportunities to participate in school events during the school year, parents and family members are strongly encouraged to complete volunteer training as early in the school year as possible.
